Kerala: 5 held with 92 kg sandalwood in Kochi

KOCHI: A group of officers from the forest flying squad raided a home at Panampally Nagar within the metropolis and arrested 5 individuals who had been making an attempt to promote sandalwood illegally. The group seized 92 kg of sandalwood value Rs 20 lakh, which was saved within the yard of the home.
 
The arrested individuals are Saju Sebastian of Thodupuzha, Nishad and Sajan KG of Adimali, Roy of Anaviratti in Idukki and Sinu Thomas of Thamarassery in Kozhikode. 

In response to Flying squad DFO Manu Sathyan, Saju Sebastian is the kingpin. The accused had been handed over to Mekkapala police who will produce them earlier than Perumbavoor courtroom.

The accused claimed that they procured the sandalwood from personal events in Idukki and had been involved with potential consumers. The Forest Intelligence wing received a tip-off in regards to the operations of the gang and knowledgeable the Ernakulam flying squad. 

“We contacted the gang as consumers and had been invited to see the sandalwoods on Saturday morning. We checked the sandalwood logs saved within the yard of the home and after affirmation detained them. They’d taken the home on hire claiming that they had been timber sellers,” stated Manu Sathyan.
